Optimized Performance of Concrete Mixtures

MTI completed a series of concrete mix designs for one of our largest clients, which not only optimized the performance of the concrete, but took economics and the environment into consideration.
These designs utilized a waste by-product from the steel production industry, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). GGBFS replaced 50% of the cement by weight in the mixtures, which has the potential to save our client well over $100,000. Using detailed materials engineering and the concepts of aggregate gradation optimization, MTI engineers also reduced the overall cementitious material in the mixtures. This led to additional savings and a lower consumption of natural resources.
